Native Slack alerts on your supplier invoices with Dust
A Dust agent works directly in Slack — no separate connector to set up. Combined with a scheduled Trigger, it can post a regular summary of at-risk invoices.
The problem
A CFO client (we'll call her Camille) used to start every Monday morning with the same routine: open Spendesk, filter overdue invoices, copy the amounts into a Slack message for her AP team. Fifteen minutes a week, for information that already existed in the system — it just needed a bridge between the two.
A Dust agent, right in Slack
Unlike other integrations that require a separate connector, a Dust agent configured with the Spendesk MCP is usable in Slack as soon as it's published — just mention it with @Dust. Combined with a scheduled Trigger and a Slack Workflow, it can also post proactively, without being asked.
Every Monday at 9am, post a summary of invoices overdue by more than 15 days to #finance, with the total amount and the 3 most critical suppliers.
Trigger configured. Preview of the message that will be posted to #finance every Monday at 9am:
📊 Overdue invoices — week of Jul 13
Total overdue (>15d): €28,400.00
🔴 Oracle France — €8,400.00 (32 days)
🔴 Sopra Steria — €6,200.00 (24 days)
🟡 Capgemini — €5,100.00 (18 days)
Want me to adjust the threshold or recipients?
The limitation to keep in mind
Even with this native integration, the Spendesk MCP has no real-time notifications — the agent can't be instantly warned that an invoice just arrived or a threshold was crossed. The weekly message stays data pulled at a fixed interval, not a live pushed alert. Camille adjusted her expectations accordingly: the Monday digest replaces her manual check, but it's still a weekly summary, not a real-time alerting system.
A second case: supplier concentration
Once a month, post to #finance-leadership if any supplier exceeds 25% of our total monthly spend.
Monthly Trigger configured. For June, no supplier exceeds the 25% threshold — the most concentrated is AWS France at 18% of total spend.
I'll automatically notify you as soon as a supplier crosses that threshold.
What to remember
- A Dust agent can be mentioned directly in Slack, no separate MCP connector to set up.
- Combined with a Trigger, it can post proactively to a channel — but always at a fixed interval, never in real time.
- A well-calibrated weekly digest replaces a repetitive manual check without multiplying notifications.
- To set up this kind of Trigger step by step, see the guide on native Slack alerts.
